The 2021 Dodge Ram 1500 TRX off-road pickup truck model is powered by a 702-horsepower Supercharged 6.2L Hellcat Hemi V8 petrol (gasoline) motor engine. And, it’s street-legal. This variant is a little different from the rest of the 1500 series offered by Dodge. The supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V8 engine has been offered in a variety of vehicle models. Not only is the 1500 TRX model, but there are also several other Dodge models and other performance vehicles from other automobile manufacturers which are powered by this HEMI V8 internal combustion engine.
However, there are a few concerns about this monster engine, such as whether its powerful Hellcat V8 HEMI is going to sustain its long-sought credibility. Here, we are going to find answers to this and see if the 2021-model Ram 1500 TRX pickup’s Hellcat HEMI V8 engine is going to live on or if it would simply cease its supply in the years to come.
What does a Hellcat have under the hood?
Dodge created the Hellcat 6.2L HEMI V8 engine for its range of the Ram 1500 TRX off-road pickup truck models of 2021, and which can be used in several other cars, as well. These include the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, Charger SRT, Ford F-150 Raptor, and Durango SRT models. Both Dodge and their HEMI motor engines are praised for their power and performance, which is why these motor engines are a great choice among many people.
History has it that the “Hellcat” name was introduced in the year 2015, which is adopted from one of America’s WWII Air Force carriers that were called the Grumman F6F Hellcat.
The Hellcat HEMI V8 engine contains a 6.2-liter displacement with integrated charge coolers, for a total of 707 horsepower, and 650 ft-lb of torque.
The twin-screw supercharger provides near-instantaneous torque & a maximum speed of 14,600 rpm. It can regulate boost pressure up to an astounding 11.0 psi. Hellcat in TRX can accelerate 0-100 kph (62 mph) in just a little over 4 seconds and can cover 400 meters (a quarter-mile) in less than 13 seconds. It inspires fast and furious fans.
The air induction system filters more dirt & debris four times than the Ford Raptor, all while consuming up to 32.9 liters of air per minute. Its airbox is designed to filter out plenty of particulates as it sends 650 lb-ft of torque through an 8-speed transmission to a 4×4 drivetrain with a low-range transfer case, locking rear differential, and full-time all-wheel-drive capability.
Legendary Engine Block:
A robust cast-iron block controls a forged-steel crankshaft with induction-hardened bearings. And all are engineered to withstand firing pressures of 1,595 psi—the equivalent of 20,000 pounds of force.
Problems with the Ram 1500 TRX’s Hellcat V8 Engine
TRX is the first Ram truck to be equipped with Launch Control & Launch Assist. It can regulate engine RPM and monitors wheel slip feedback to achieve the fastest possible acceleration rate. But, it seems that the future of the Ram 1500 TRX and other models running on the Hellcat V8 Hemi is soon going to be making their way for transformation.
Dodge, however, has decided to announce the end of their Hellcat V8 breed of engines, which is also taking their fans by surprise.
The 6.2L Hellcat HEMI V8 Supercharged engine seems to be thirsty for fuel, and there is also the problem of the rising emission standards and cost of fuels. Therefore, all this could add up to the problems currently being faced by the governments, corporations, and consumers, as well.
Race for Electrified Power
Concerns over the cost and availability of fossil fuels remain a major cause, which is why Dodge is now also heading towards electric vehicles.
The question about their fuel-powered internal combustion-engine models being replaced with electric-powered ones is still in plans. Nowadays, car manufacturers are adopting the use of battery power over fossil fuel power. Perhaps, this could also be one of the reasons why Dodge has also decided to discontinue their fuel-powered Hellcat V8 engines soon.
Future of Ram 1500 TRX and its Hellcat V8 Power
The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX off-road pickup model has not been out long and this all-wheel drive (4×4) serves as the most potent heavy-duty truck that is available in its category. Since it is still a recent model from Dodge, perhaps, it probably may not undergo many changes for the year 2022 that is yet to arrive. The company, however, plans to keep its Hellcat V8 engine for now, and we could see an electric option in several of their off-road models in the future.
Aside from getting a few new unique colors, the 2022-model Ram TRX is likely to offer features, like the Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It may also offer a few additional choices of interior colors, as well. However, making plans for the significant changes may not likely happen until the newer 2023 model will have its arrivals announced by the company’s CEO.
In addition to this, it is expected that the 2023-model Ram TRX off-road pickup truck might get a new look to its exteriors. It may also include an updated headlight design and refreshed interiors. It could offer a screen larger than the current 12-inch option, too. If an SRT version arrives, it will be lowered.
You can get started with a Hellcat Ram TRX for about $72,390. Pricing for the 2022 model isn’t expected to increase, but it could be a rise in some years with the addition of a few hundred dollars. Also, the 2023 model might cost more, but we will just have to wait and see.
For all those who have a love for and even depend on Dodge for performance, the Hellcat engine variants have always been the best thing. However, it now seems that the high-performance supercharged beast may be nearing its end. Looking at the current needs of the market, now, it may also be time for Dodge to let it go, as there is going to be a new transformation, or perhaps, another revolution in town.
